Modernising Agriculture Worldwide
19/11/22
90% of the worlds’ 570 million farmers are small holders who are largely dependent on human and animal labour; the majority of them use old-school tools and are an increasingly ageing population, which can make them unable to gain access to loans to procure machinery. This machinery aremostly tailored to large farm holders, and usually have limited training and after sales support. Accelerating the capacity of our farmers to innovate is especially crucial today as they face unprecedented challenges (such as labour intensive farming practices, time consuming work patterns, loss of capital, high cost of farming, significant post- harvest losses, etc.) that affect their livelihoods as well as the sustainability of the world’s food and agriculture systems. With this in mind, ECOM successfully introduced a simple, effective, affordable, mechanised and innovative approach by establishing MICROMEC solutions, delivering efficient equipment that enhances productivity, minimises post-harvest losses, improves ease of farming, and increases farmer income.
Our solutions cover land preparation, planting, weed management, spraying, harvesting, threshing, and crop management, including drone services and various post-harvest solutions.
MICROMEC products are not just machines but also business ideas and opportunities for young entrepreneurs. Our machines can be used as household machines and also for rental and semi-commercial purposes to make additional income for farmers and micro-entrepreneurs. We provide farm mechanisation solutions for smallholder farmers, commercial farmers, NGOs, government agencies, and private individuals. Young entrepreneurs are encouraged to take advantage of our various post-harvest solutions as a business venture.
Targeted at small to medium holder farmers, farmers now have access to quality but affordable micro-farm machines for weed control and land preparations, which is helping to reduce the use of chemicals. Further, during fertilizer application, farmers often use their hands directly, but through the MICROMEC concept, with the introduction of simple equipment like the Fertilizer Broadcaster, we are working to significantly and rapidly reduce farmers' risk to direct contact with chemical fertilizers.
MICROMEC is holistic, and it offers product sale, leasing services, mechanised services, training of end users and technicians, service and spare parts availability for lifetime value.
